OUR WORK

The best way to ensure conservation of the Cal Madow long-term is, in addition to building alternative economies, building local conservation capacity. We are working with the regional university, Sanaag University in Erigavo, to train their students and lecturers in field techniques, conservation approaches, and ecological knowledge. Together we are establishing a forestry lab at the university and we aim to establish a biological field station on the escarpment. Additionally, we will run a field course to train students in practical assessment and data-gathering techniques.

 

We are also working with the Hargeysa Cultural Center and the University of Hargeisa to study Somali culture surrounding frankincense.
